The Medicine Bow Mountains are found west of Laramie, Wyoming. Stretching across the crest is the Snowy Range, an alpine land of pristine lakes and soaring peaks.
With quick access from Interstate 80 and Highway 130, the Snowy Range is an outdoor enthusiast's ideal recreation area. Anglers will find dozens of backcountry lakes for trout fishing. Day hikers will appreciate the opportunity to explore the alpine backcountry without backpacking for days. Photographers will try in vain to capture the impressive mountain grandeur.

The Medicine Bows also include two wilderness areas. The Savage Run Wilderness provides backcountry camping and big game hunting opportunities. There are also a number of creeks within the wilderness. The Platte River Wilderness is home to the North Platte River. White-water rafting is a big business in this wilderness area, as is trout fishing, wildlife watching, and hiking.
The strenuous hike to the summit of Medicine Bow Peak is well worth its breath-stealing effort. Spectacular views come into sight well before the 12,013-foot summit is gained.

Not ready for a summit climb? Hiking Wyoming's Medicine Bow National Forest covers all of the trails in the Snowy Range so you can wander through meadows teeming with wildflowers or discover a hidden backcountry lake.
